I have not hunted since last Saturday, so my mind is wandering…
You are probably thinking about how I can write a blog posting that links hunting and Apple computer technology. Since Apple introduced the prototype for their iPhone Tuesday, I have been thinking a lot about Apple technology.
I received an iPod Nano for Christmas that I was compelled to hook up and use for the first time last night. I am not a big music person (opting to devote most of radio listening time to 610 WIP sports radio in Philadelphia and the national Howard Stern Show on Sirius Satellite Radio), so I explored the Podcast listings on iTunes last night. As a marketer, I have doubted the usefulness of podcasts. However, after subscribing to some Podcasts, I think they can be useful, informative, revenue generating, and entertaining. I listened to several Podcasts during my commute this morning. What’s funny, the most interesting Podcast was a marketing broadcast about Podcasts (Marketing Online Live #45)! I then began brainstorming about ways I could use Podcasts.
We have all thought about how cool it would be to have a Saturday morning hunting show on ESPN. Do these guys really get paid to hunt? Damn, what a life! Thinking along those lines, perhaps I could begin producing a hunting Podcast. Of course I have a lot of research to do, but I think people would subscribe to a hunting podcast. I believe most people listen to Podcasts when there is absolutely nothing else to do. People listen on planes, in cars, on trains, etc. I know people who listen to their iPods while they are hunting, so it is only logical that hunters with iPods would listen to hunting Podcasts (whether they are out in the woods or not). Plus, there could be paid marketing opportunities for hunting product, lodge, and guide service reviews.
I will begin my research soon — right after hunting season!
