I went bowhunting for deer yesterday in Delaware on the opening day of the Delaware handgun season. The weather this winter has been absolute bizarre, and most hunters (myself included) hate it! Can you believe it was 71 degrees yesterday? What kind of January hunting weather is that? There should be snow on the ground!
I arrived at my hunting spot early, not knowing how this ridiculous weather would affect the deer. I sat in a new Loggy Bayou Brush Ladder stand from 1:30 PM until about 4:00 PM before I saw anything. I was in the woods on the edge of a field. I began seeing deer feeding in the field, but they were several hundred yards away. After about 45 minutes, the deer came closer. One big doe actually walked toward me, but enter the woods on a trail about 45 yards from me. The doe came within 35 yards, but I never had a clear shot, since a tree was in my way.
Well, at least I had some action. Bring on the cold weather and GO EAGLES!
