According to an article in yesterday’s The News Journal newspaper , Delaware is considering increasing their hunting license fees for the 2007-2008 hunting season. For the record, I think an increase is overdue. I personally know of Delaware hunter safety instructors who have been complaining about lack of funding for years, and there have been program cutbacks at the Ommelanden Hunter Education Training Center in New Castle, Delaware.
If we use NJ’s license fees as a model, then Delaware will be well-served with increasing their hunting license fees. New Jersey has a ton of public hunting land and they have many worthwhile hunting programs that are funded by license fees. Let’s just hope that Delaware makes the right money management decisions with the increased funding. We need better hunter education facilities, better public shooting ranges, and more public land to hunt.
Only time will tell.
