I recently moderated two podcasts on behalf of Versus Country Television, where I had the pleasure of interviewing Tred Barta, host of The Best and Worst of Tred Barta, and David Morris, one of the hosts of The Bucks of Tecomate. The podcasts, following the format of a radio interview/call-in show, will undoubtedly live in perpetuity in the archives of blogs and hunting sites devoted to sharing useful information about hunting.
Tred Barta Podcast (To listen to the entire Tred Barta podcast moderated bySteven M. Kendus, click here.)
Adhering to his hardball attitute and his love-him-or-hate him personality, Tred Barta enlightened listeners by sharing his passions, philosphies, and advice about hunting. Right out of the gate, Barta gives listeners a taste of his no-nonsense, fervid approach to life, but he also shows his endearing, compassionate side. As a man who has pursued game and fish around the world, he still has the time to dedicate a great deal of his time to helping underprivileged kids.
To truly understand Barta’s approach to hunting and fishing, one needs to tune in to The Best and Worst of Tred Barta on Versus Country. To get a glimpse into Barta’s approach to life, one needs to listen to his responses in the podcasts. The callers and I covered a multitude of topics, including:
- Airlines baggage fees
- “The most spectacular place in the entire world”
- Pickled eggs and pigs feet
- Predation and the value of hunters
- Kentucky muzzleloaders
- Keeping young people involved in hunting
- Conservation Organizations
- Keeping hunting shows “real”
- Why Tred carries such a big knife
- How Versus Country is changing the landscape of outdoors television
With Barta dropping such great nuggets as “a squirrel hunt on public land is just as great as a buffalo hunt in Tanzania” and “a smart doe on the ground with a long bow… is harder to shoot than a 200-pound buck any single day of the week,” it’s plain to see why he is one of the more colorful characters we have in outdoors television.
David Morris Podcast (To listen to the entire David Morris podcast moderated bySteven M. Kendus, click here.)
Who knew that hunting could be so much fun?
Well actually, we all know that hunting is fun. However, imagine the fun you would have if Jeff Foxworthy was one of your hunting partners! David Morris, the engaging and jovial host of Versus Country’s The Bucks of Tecomate, doesn’t have to imagine! He actually hunts with Foxworthy frequently, and their camaraderie is evident.
While Morris readily admits that he has fun filming and hunting with Foxworthy and his staff from Versus, he also uses the show’s forum to discuss serious topics that are important to the hunting community. Topics covered by David Morris in the podcast include:
- Whitetail habitat management
- Involving families in the outdoors
- Educating more women and children in hunting and habitat management
- Wildlife foodplot strategies
- Wildlife baiting
- The passion that Versus has to produce quality outdoors television programming
As one of the pioneers and leading authorities on food plot management for whitetails, Morris offers excellent advice for hunters of all levels. His experience, knowledge, and devotion are reflected in his pithy responses.
