Because Delaware crow hunting season is one of those strange seasons that extends from one year’s hunting season into the next, it’s always tough to find out when the season actually starts. Delaware’s crow season usually opens in June and runs through March, but I couldn’t find the exact opening date for this June.
I just got some new Reel Wings crow decoys, so I want to get out and do some crow hunting. Unsure if the Delaware season is open, I called the Delaware Division of Fish and Wildlife to ask. The representative I spoke with didn’t readily know, so she did some research and called me back. She called me back within 15 minutes and let me know that the Delaware crow season opened the fourth Thursday in June, which was yesterday, June 26. She was a great help. (Thanks.)
We have used the Reel Wings flying crow decoys for a couple years, and they work great. (See my post from March 02, 2008 for video footage of the decoy in action.) With a good wind they fly like kites and look like dipping and diving crows. I just got two of their new, lighter models, so I am looking forward to testing them out. I also got some of the new Bird Vision UV Paint from Reel Wings. I’m going to paint over some of my older crow decoys with the paint to hopefully make them look more realistic. I will let you know how they turn out.
Right now I just need a cool day, some wind, and a box of shells! I’ll keep you posted.
