Two hunting partners and I had a great Delaware December goose hunt this morning near Middletown, Delaware. We set up about six dozen Canada goose decoys before light in a harvested bean field and hunted a sunken pit.
It seemed like geese were everywhere this morning (along with several small flocks of ducks). The combination of several days of bad weather up north, dropping temperatures, and stiff winds created a great hunting day. We had about 10 flocks of geese check out our decoys. The first goose was taken about 8:00 when a group of two dropped in. The second was taken when another small group of three dropped. Then the next two were taken when a group of five broke off from a larger flock and locked into the wind. The final two geese were taken about 9:25 AM when a flock of about 40-50 birds tried to land in the decoys.
It seems that the cold and snow this year is bringing more waterfowl to the area than we have seen in the last several years.
