I am sorry to announce that after nearly ten years, my hunting column has been eliminated from The News Journal and Delawareonline.com.
First published in November 2008 and covering topics like hunting regulations; legalization of Sunday hunting; Delaware cougars and coyotes; emergency preparedness; woodcock, crow, and turkey hunting; and guns, gun ownership, and gun laws, my Hunter’s Journal column offered needed insight to non-hunters and provided a familiar voice to Delaware’s hunting public.
I’ve been assured that the decision to eliminate the column was based strictly on economics. As an educator who has taught writing and editing classes, I know all too well the challenges faced by today’s journalists and the newspaper industry. If cutting my freelance gig can help save someone else’s full-time job, I support the decision.
I will miss writing the column—and I hope you will miss reading it. Don’t despair, however. I will continue to be a voice for Delaware hunters through https://huntingthefirststate.com, on social media, and in other publications.
Thanks for reading.
