by STEVEN M. KENDUS | FEBRUARY 28 , 2021 – The Delaware Division of Fish and Wildlife announced the 2021-2022 proposed migratory game bird seasons in the February 23, 2021 Advisory Council for Wildlife and Freshwater Fish meeting.
According to Environmental Program Administrator Rob Hossler, the Division uses the following approach when establishing the annual migratory bird hunting seasons:
- adhering to established federal guidelines
- maximizing Saturdays and holidays
- overlapping duck and goose seasons where possible
- minimizing conflicts with firearms deer seasons
- running season dates as late as possible
While the proposed 2021-2022 migratory bird seasons closely follow the 2020-2021 seasons, Division administrators included three duck hunting season (including the special youth hunting days) options for public consideration. The duck season proposals essentially begin the October season segment (or split) in early, mid, or late October, which could potentially affect the final day of the season.
The Advisory Council on Wildlife and Freshwater Fish will make a final recommendation on the proposed 2021-2022 migratory game bird seasons to DNREC at its March 30, 2021 public meeting. To comment on the proposed seasons prior to the Council meeting, interested parties are encouraged to email Justyn Foth or call 302-739-9912.
The final 2021-2022 migratory game bird seasons will be posted in the 2021-2022 Delaware Hunting Guide.
