As a year-round hunter, I hunt fish in the summer months. I hunt big fish, small fish, freshwater fish, and saltwater fish. Most call this sport ‘fishing,’ buy hey, since this is the Hunting The First State site, let’s say we are ‘fish hunting.’
On July 5, 2013 I joined a group of saltwater anglers aboard the Reel Naughty, a 40-foot sportfishing charter boat docked at the Sunset Marina in Ocean City, Maryland. We left the Ocean City inlet around 5:00 AM and motored to the Hot Dog (about 40 miles off the Delaware/Maryland coast) in pursuit of yellowfin tuna.
With reports of a strong tuna bite at the Hot Dog, the day after Independence Day brought a great deal of boat traffic to the area. Eight hours of trolling between 30+ boats kept the Reel Naughty crew at the top of their game, and their efforts paid off. 13-year-old Nick Martino reeled in the first fish of the day around noon — a gaffer-size dolphin. I reeled in another a few hours later.
The Reel Naughty crew knew the area, knew how to find fish, and provided safe transport and navigation in less-than-ideal conditions. They even fileted our fish after arriving back at the dock. Reel Naughty specializes in Tuna, Shark, and Marlin fishing, but they will take clients out for anything that swims. They provide all the top notch equipment, and they are available for any tournaments clients wish to enter. They use only professional mates and guides that have excellent knowledge of the fish and the area.
