Yesterday, I picked up the 5-bearded jake that I shot last year from the taxidermist. What a phenomenal job! Don Travis of Travis’ Taxidermy in Chestertown, Maryland is — without a doubt — one of the best taxidermists in the country.
Every time I visit his studio I am in awe of the mounts he has that are awaiting pickup. I saw 5 gobblers in there yesterday that were beautiful. Don and I began talking about my upcoming African safari, and within minutes I was touring his private trophy room where some of HIS African harvests were on display. I was so impressed that I am seriously considering having the hides of any animals I shoot in Africa shipped to Travis’ Taxidermy.
I gave Don a copy of my book, and he mentioned that he is contemplating writing a book about his hunting escapades. Judging by his personal trophies and by his hunting photo albums (including the photo of the 7-foot black mamba that he shot mere feet from where he was standing!), I think his book would be a great seller!
