I was on vacation during the entire week of Christmas, so I have been slacking on recording my hunting posts! I will now attempt to get caught up.
We deer hunted (with bows) on 12/27. It was one of those hunts where I was just at the wrong place at the wrong time. I saw a ton of deer! I probably saw three separate herds of 15-20 deer each. Unfortunately, all of the deer were well out of bow range. Damn! Regardless of the outcome, any hunt where you see that many deer in Delaware is a good hunt.
Game Creek Bird Hunt 12/28
On Thursday 12/28, my Vizsla Gus and I were invited by a good friend to accompany him to Game Creek Hunting Farms in Woodstown, NJ to hunt pheasants and chukar. This would be the first time Gus hunted with another dog (professionally trained, I might add), so I was a bit nervous. However, Gus did phenomenally! I was proud as can be! He hunted side-by-side with a 12-year-old Brittany named Duke. (See the photos.) Gus and Duke looked like they were together for years! Gus pointed the first two birds, but before long, Gus and Duke were backing each other, double-pointing, and retrieving downed birds. It was great.
Benny, our guide, gave me a lot of good advice about continuing Gus’ training. It was a great time. We put out 12 pheasants and 12 chukars. I believe we bagged 25 birds! We must have picked up a straggler!
For interested bird hunters, I highly recommend Game Creek Hunting Farms in Woodstown, NJ.
